Global Forum 2009
Rinaldo Brutoco led a panel discussion among leading CEOs at the June 2-5 Global Forum 2009, a joint project the UN Global Compact and the Center for Business as an Agent of World Betterment (BAWB) at the Case Weatherhead School of Management. The 2009 Global Forum topic was "Manage by Designing in an Era of Massive Innovation."
Rinaldo’s panel discussed, “How are leading companies driving innovation and sustainability through design thinking?” Members of the panel included Ray Anderson (CEO, Interface, Inc.), Toby Cosgrove (CEO, Cleveland Clinic), and Craig Wynett (General Manager, Future Growth Initiatives, P&G).
At the opening night gala session of the Global Forum, Rinaldo and Academy Board Member Tim O’Connor, and Academy Fellow Ron Nahser, Ph.D. presented the Academy’s 2009 EthicMark® Award in a format like that of the movie industry’s Academy awards. The audience viewed the finalists’ videos before the winners were announced.
“The Bigger View,” SF Bay Area Women’s Presidents Organization, Regional Spring Event
Rinaldo gave a typically dynamic talk in response to an invitation by the Golden Gate Chapter of the Women’s Presidents Organization to speak at its WPO Regional Spring Event April 1, 2009. After the meeting, WPO member and Academy Board member Bonny Meyer wrote us:
The members of the WPO who attended the Bay Area Regional Meeting found themselves riveted to Rinaldo’s presentation and at times aghast by the facts as he outlined the antecedents and anatomy of our economic crisis with a clarity and perspective they had not previously heard. Many commented afterwards that he was the best presenter the Regional meeting had ever had.
WPO member and Academy Board member Leni Miller wrote us:
The enthusiasm with which Rinaldo Brutoco's talk was received at the regional SF meeting of WPO was the most I've seen in several years…. Speaking to women entrepreneurs, Rinaldo gave us the good news that our profile of being able to change direction and move quickly was exactly what was needed in this new world.... He said that we are going through a paradigm shift in planetary consciousness as big as when Copernicus announced that the earth was not the center of the universe. Knowing that we are the ones creating our worlds and that this is the consciousness shift that is happening globally, left us all with cautious, but genuine optimism.”
“Freedom from Mid-East Oil,” Commonwealth Club of San Francisco
Rinaldo spoke to The Commonwealth Club of California, the nation’s oldest and largest public affairs forum, on January 10, 2009 about how we can use the economic crisis to create solutions for our increasingly urgent energy and climate change crises.
"Lemons to Lemonade,” Kenan-Flagler Business School, Center for Sustainable Enterprise
In March 2008, Rinaldo spoke at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina on "Lemons to Lemonade: How to Launch a Sustainable Business in 24-36 Months." It was Rinaldo’s third address at Kenan-Flagler over the last five years. In a September 2007 ranking of business schools, the Wall St. Journal ranked Kenan-Flagler #5 nationally for corporate social responsibility. View a clip of his speech here.
“Three Choices for Wisdom,” Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University
In April 2008, Academy President Rinaldo Brutoco was the first guest speaker in the new Fairmount Minerals Colloquium Series at the Weatherhead School of Management's Center for Business as an Agent of World Benefit (BAWB) at Case Western Reserve University.
As described in the BAWB newsletter, Rinaldo discussed the urgency of our energy and climate change crises and “the role of business as a steward for ensuring the most essential form of sustainability—that of mankind.”
