The Greenwash Guide "gives an overview of the many types of greenwashing, how it's committed and how to avoid it", Companies who advertise the environmental benefits of their products or services will want to look at the Guide's environmental advertising standards and best practices.
Public complaints about greenwashing increased almost 500% between 2006 and 2007, according to a report by the Advertising Standards Agency. In 2007, the ASA received 561 complaints about 410 ads. The public relations industry, through the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), is urging its members to follow a green claims code and the CIPR guidelines. So far there don't seem to be any concrete commitments to do so.
